Albemarle
Albemarle’s Orangeburg Plant sits on a 300-acre site along the world’s longest free-flowing blackwater river, the Edisto, in Orangeburg, South Carolina and employs more than 330 people.
The Orangeburg Plant is a fully commercial specialty chemical facility serving markets and customers for Albemarle’s Fine Chemistry, Polymer Solutions and Catalysts divisions. The facility’s supply chain and production scale ranges from a bulk active pharmaceutical product delivered in 5-gallon bottles to rail car quantities of raw materials and products. The site has strategic access to warehousing and shipping from the United States’ fourth largest container port in Charleston, South Carolina, just 80 miles from the plant.
Albemarle’s Orangeburg Plant has been manufacturing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s) for over 25 years. This experience makes the site well versed in current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). In 2005, the facility expanded its cGMP production units and added equipment necessary to accommodate lower volume API’s and Pharmaceutical intermediates. The expansion demonstrates Albemarle’s commitment to the Pharmaceutical market served by their Fine Chemistry Division. Website: http://http://www.albemarle.com
